BISHKEK (TCA) — Between May 13 and 15, the Embassy of Japan in Kyrgyzstan is organizing a Festival of Japanese Culture at Lake Issyk-Kul.
The festival will include the following events:
May 13 — the Embassy of Japan and the Run the Silk Road marathon directorate (Kyrgyzstan) will organize a children run at Kyrgyz Seashore resort, at 5 pm.
May 14 — the 5th international marathon Run the Silk Road, at Kyrgyz Seashore resort, at 8.30 am.
May 14 — the Embassy of Japan and Kyrgyzstan’s Kendo Federation will hold the 5th Kendo (Japanese martial art) international tournament for the Japanese Ambassador’s Cup, with participation of teams from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
May 15 — the Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Cholpon-Ata municipality, will organize the Day of Japan in the city of Cholpon-Ata, at the Blue Issyk-Kul resort, at 1 pm.
On May 15, the festival will also include performances of Ooedodaiko group of Japanese drummers, Japanese volunteers, students of local schools, and members of martial arts federations.
The festival will also include master classes in calligraphy and origami, as well as traditional children’s games and a tasting of Japanese sake.
The festival’s special guest is Koyama Chikatoshi, a member of the Kendo International Federation and a founder of the Kendo Federation in Kyrgyzstan. He will be a referee at the kendo tournament on May 14. Mr. Koyama will also demonstrate his skills together with members of Kyrgyzstan’s Kendo Federation during the Day of Japan in Cholpon-Ata.
Admission to the festival’s events is gratis.
