ASTANA (TCA) — A delegation of Vietnam Railways company last week visited the infrastructure facilities of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Khorgos–Eastern Gateway and the Altynkol rail station on the Kazakh-Chinese border, the press service of Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) said.
The delegation got acquainted with the activities of the Dry Port, logistics and industrial zones, the monitoring center, the system of privileges and preferences, and the possibilities of transportation and logistics through the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing.
Phan Quoc Anh, Deputy Director of Vietnam Railways, praised the potential of the SEZ Khorgos–Eastern Gateway and emphasized its great prospects as a transport and transit link between Southeast Asia and Europe.
The head of the Vietnamese delegation said that “ASEAN countries can establish a land transit of goods to Europe through China and Kazakhstan via Khorgos”.
In his words, a first cargo flow from Vietnam via Khorgos to Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries and on to Europe will be started this year.
In the meantime, on March 2, a delegation of KTZ took part in the Forum “Kazakhstan: potential market for Thai business,” organized in Bangkok by the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Thailand.
The forum discussed trade and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Thailand, and transport and logistics opportunities of Kazakhstan as a transit hub between the East and West.
During the forum, KTZ invited Thai exporters and logistics companies to participate in the New Silk Road project, as well as in logistics and industrial projects at SEZ Khorgos-Eastern Gateway.
