Uzbekistan president pays second visit to Turkmenistan this year

TASHKENT (TCA) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on May 19 and 20 at the invitation of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the press service of the Uzbek president said. It will be Mirziyoyev’s second visit to Turkmenistan since his election as the Uzbek president late last year.

As a follow-up of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan dialogue on the highest level, which took place during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan on March 6-7 this year, the parties will discuss the issues of bilateral relations in transport and communications, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as exchange views on the regional and international agenda during the meetings and negotiations in the city of Turkmenbashi on Turkmenistan’s Caspian coast, the press service said.

President Mirziyoyev will also visit Turkmenistan’s Avaza national tourist zone, where children from different regions of Uzbekistan who have been affected by the Aral Sea environmental disaster, are receiving medical and recreational treatment.

Following the negotiations of the heads of state, several inter-governmental, inter-agency and other documents aimed at further development of cooperation in various spheres are expected to be signed. A package of mutually beneficial commercial contracts and agreements by the business circles of the two countries will also be concluded within the frameworks of the visit.
