Uzbekistan joins China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor

ALMATY, Kazakhstan (TCA) — A meeting of representatives of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, China, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the further development of cargo transportation along the common international transport corridor was held in Almaty last week, the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) national railways company reported.

The volume of traffic along the China-Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran corridor last year amounted to 1 thousand TEU.

First Deputy Chairman of the Board of KTZ Kanat Almagambetov said that the flow of container cargo increased, especially in Uzbekistan and through the station Bolashak to Iran. With the accession of Uzbekistan, the corridor becomes much shorter.

“For the development of transit cargo from China to our countries and in other directions, it is important to develop acceptable tariff and other conditions,” Almagambetov said.

The meeting discussed the issues of attracting additional cargo to the Iran–China route, the organization of regular container services and the establishment of tariff conditions along the China-Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan–Iran corridor for 2019 for loaded containers. Since April of this year, a regular feeder service has been launched along the Aktau-Alyat route.

Following the meeting, Uzbekistan joined the China-Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor. The parties agreed on the participation of the Uzbek side in container transportation along this route.

The parties also agreed on comprehensive tariff rates.
