China, Turkmenistan should enhance synergy of development strategies — Chinese top legislator

ASHGABAT (TCA) — Top Chinese legislator Li Zhanshu on October 16 called on China and Turkmenistan to strengthen the synergy of their development strategies for mutually beneficial cooperation, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

The two countries are “natural partners” in jointly building the Belt and Road, said Li, the chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, during a meeting with Kasymguly Babayev, deputy chairman of the Mejlis (the Turkmen parliament) in Beijing.

The two countries should strengthen the synergy of China’s Belt and Road initiative and Turkmenistan’s development strategy, Li said, calling on the two nations to make the cake of mutually beneficial cooperation bigger.

The China-Turkmenistan strategic partnership is growing rapidly and showing great potential for further development under the leadership of their presidents, according to Li, who called the bilateral relationship a “model” of international relations featuring equality and pursuing win-win results.

The NPC stands ready to work with the Turmen Mejlis to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state, actively conduct friendly exchanges, enhance communication on legislation and cooperation under the framework of multilateral parliamentary organizations, and provide legal safeguards for further cooperation in various fields, said Li.

Babayev said the Turkmen parliament is willing to reinforce exchanges with the Chinese legislative body to promote the development of relations between the two countries.

China is an important economic partner of Turkmenistan and the largest buyer of Turkmen natural gas.
