Tajikistan exports 79 thousand tons of cement to Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan

DUSHANBE (TCA) — Tajikistan is increasing cement exports to neighboring countries, Avesta news agency reports citing Tajik government sources.

Tajikistan saw a sharp increase in the cement production in the first seven months of this year. Commissioning of new cement producing facilities over the past two years has allowed Tajikistan to minimize the import of cement and start its export to neighboring countries.

In January-July Tajikistan exported more than 79 thousand tons of cement to Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Tajikistan now has 12 cement plants which altogether produced 1.037 million tons of cement in January-July this year, 248 thousand tons more than in the same period last year.

The total production capacity of Tajikistan’s cement plants is four million tons per year. Today, however, these plants’ output depends on the demand in the domestic market and the possibility of exporting their products.

Tajikistan’s annual demand for cement is estimated at 3 million-3.5 million tons.

In 2015, Tajikistan produced 1.4 million tons of cement.

In March, Tajikistan President Emomali Rakhmon inaugurated a new cement plant of LLC Huaxin Ghayur Sugd Cement in the Bobojon Ghafurov district in the Sughd province. The plant was constructed by Tajik company Ghayur Cement in cooperation with China’s Huaxin Central Asia Investment. The plant has annual production capacity of more than one million tons of cement, and can produce 3,300 tons of cement per day.
