ALMATY (TCA) — The special economic zone “Park of innovative technologies” (SEZ PIT or Almaty Technopark) now has 145 companies producing more than 500 types of products and services, including 14 companies with foreign participation (Russia, South Korea, Israel, China, Germany, Italy) and 35 companies operating on the principle of extraterritoriality. That was said during Prime Minister Karim Massimov’s visit to the Almaty Technopark on August 15, the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported.
About 60 percent of all PIT projects are implemented in the information and communication technologies sector and the remaining 40 percent in the oil and gas sector.
According to the deputy akim (mayor) of Almaty E. Aukenov, 13.5 billion tenge was allocated for infrastructure construction of the second stage of the SEZ PIT in 2013-2016. About 72 percent of utilities have been built and 9.04 billion tenge spent.
The Park of Innovative Technologies was established by the President’s decree in 2003. The total area of the industrial park is 343 hectares. The first phase (123 hectares) has been completed and fully occupied by enterprises. The second phase will occupy 163 hectares and the third phase 140 hectares.
The main objectives of the SEZ PIT are to create conditions for the participating companies to attract innovative projects, launch startups, and collaborate with high-tech enterprises in the development of innovative projects.
Since 2003, more than 3,100 jobs have been created in the SEZ PIT.
Commissioning of the second phase of SEZ PIT is scheduled for 2017.
