Turkmenistan invites investors from Qatar

ASHGABAT (TCA) — During his visit to the State of Qatar on March 15, Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov spoke for increasing bilateral trade and services between the two countries, official Turkmen media reported.

Turkmenistan and Qatar signed several agreements following official talks chaired by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and President Berdymukhammedov in Doha on March 15, including a memorandum on developing cooperation in the energy sector between the governments of Turkmenistan and Qatar and a memorandum between Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and the National Civil Aviation Authority of Turkmenistan.

Opportunities for regular trade exhibitions and business forums, specialized fairs of goods made in Turkmenistan and Qatar, and opening of Trade Chambers in the capitals of both states was discussed during the negotiations.

On March 14, the day before the Turkmen president’s visit, the first Turkmen–Qatar business forum was held in Doha.

The forum focused on participation of Qatar companies in investment projects in Turkmenistan.

Qatar companies were invited to participation in construction of gas processing, gas and petrochemical plants in Turkmenistan, in the projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as in supply of equipment for the country’s oil and gas sector.

The Turkmen side also expressed the interest in participation of large financial and investment structures of Qatar in transnational gas pipeline project Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI).
