DUSHANBE (TCA) — Chinese investments will be used to reconstruct the Kalai Khumb – Rushon motor road section in Tajikistan, Avesta news agency reported with reference to Tajikistan’s Transport Ministry.
The Tajik government has reached an agreement on financing of this road section reconstruction.
The length of this road section is 109 kilometers.
This road section is part of a motor road from the Tajik capital Dushanbe to the border with China, with a total length of 1,009 kilometers.
It was earlier reported that Saudi Arabia through the Islamic Development Bank will provide $108 million to Tajikistan for the reconstruction of two road sections Kulyab-Shuroabad and Shkev-Kalai Khumb of the Kulyab – Kalai Khumb motor road.
Reconstruction of several sections of the Kulyab – Kalai Khumb road has been financed by the Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, OPEC Fund for International Development, and Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
The Kulyab – Kalai Khumb road will connect Tajikistan to the Karakarum highway in China and will ensure round-the-year transport communication with Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The total length of the road sections that require reconstruction is around 500 kilometers. Tajikistan is holding talks with international financial organizations on financing those sections of this strategic road.
