Kazakhstan to auction 101 mineral deposits

ASTANA (TCA) — An auction to attract investors in the mining and metallurgical sector of Kazakhstan will be held on June 16 as part of the 7th International Mining and Metallurgy Congress and Exhibition AMM 2016, which will take place in Astana on June 15 and 16, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan reported citing Deputy Minister for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan Albert Rau.

The deputy minister said that within the framework of the international Congress “AMM—Astana Mining & Metallurgy 2016” a tender will be held for the rights to extract ores and minerals. Late in April, a list of 101 mineral deposits which will be sold at the auction was presented to the public. The purchase of mineral rights implies large scale development of the infrastructure of the regions where the deposits are located — from conducting exploration to creating new jobs.

Applications for the auction will be received until 26 May 2016.

The auction will sell the rights for 101 mineral deposits, including:

– 44 deposits of precious metals, gold, copper (base metals, silver, arsenic),
– 23 deposits of copper and base metals, lead, zinc, copper (base metals, molybdenum),
– two deposits of titanium and zirconium ore,
– nine deposits of manganese and iron ore,
– six deposits of non-metallic minerals (quartzite, etc.),
– ten deposits of rare earth elements, tin, lithium (tungsten, tantalum, beryllium, etc.),
– one diamond deposit,
– four bauxite deposits,
– one graphite deposit,
– one deposit of porphyry copper ores.
