US investment companies show interest in Uzbekistan’s securities market

TASHKENT (TCA) — On July 22, New York hosted an investment forum “Opportunities in the capital markets of Uzbekistan”, organized by the Uzbek Capital Market Development Agency and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, the Jahon information agency reported.

The event was attended by more than 140 participants, including representatives of the largest American portfolio investors, leading investment and management companies, as well as about 20 leading companies in Uzbekistan planning to place securities.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Uzbek Parliament) S. Safoyev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan A. Kamilov addressed the opening ceremony of the forum. They informed the guests about the ongoing large-scale reforms in the country.

Director of the Capital Market Development Agency A. Nazirov held a panel discussion with participation of experts from leading global companies Citi, MUFG, Franklin Templeton, and Dentons.

Participants of the forum discussed current issues related to attracting investment in the securities of Uzbekistan issuers, held direct negotiations with American portfolio investors and representatives of Uzbekistan companies.

Following the forum, American investment companies expressed interest in Uzbekistan’s capital market, for example, in buying securities on the local stock exchange and opening their subsidiaries in Uzbekistan.
