Uzbekistan president launches construction of new metallurgical plant

TASHKENT (TCA) — Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited several industrial enterprises and launched the construction of a new metallurgical plant during his trip to the Navoi province on March 28.

In the province’s Qiziltepa district, Mirziyoyev was presented several projects aimed at development of textiles in the region, the president’s press service reported.

Uzbekistan now pays particular attention to deep processing of cotton fibre and manufacturing of export-oriented goods. Through loans from the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity, manufacturing of high-quality yarn with modern and energy-efficient technological equipment is to be organized at Bakht textile, Bakht Navoiy LLC in Navoi city, Toshrabot textile LLC in Qiziltepa district, and Navbahor textile LLC in Navbahor district.

Foreign investments are also to be attracted to implement these projects worth over 70 million US dollars. The factories will be equipped with highly-efficient modern machines, manufactured by Rieter, a Swiss company.

Implementation of the projects will allow to fully process cotton fibre produced in the region. Thus, production of finished fabrics from yarn will reach 70 percent and the output of knitted goods 50 percent. Some 80 percent of Bakht textile products, the production capacity of which is 7.6 thousand tons of quality yarn per year, is to be exported.

The President also got acquainted with the project of manufacturing fully processed leather based on Italian technology at Camilla Group LLC in Karmana district.

With its commissioning, it will be possible to produce 20 million square decimeters of processed leather per year and export products for 3.2 million US dollars.

President Mirziyoyev also attended the ceremony to start the construction of the Navoi ore extraction and metallurgy combine’s hydrometallurgy plant No 5 on the basis of the Auminzo-Amantoy gold deposits.

The 396 million-dollar project will make it possible to process 5 million tons of ore a year and to create over 5 thousand new jobs.

The President pushed a symbolic button to start development work in the Auminzo-Amantoy deposits.

In 2017-2026, 27 projects will be implemented at the Navoi ore extraction and metallurgy combine. Implementation of these projects worth over $3 billion will raise the combine’s production capacity by 30 percent and create some 31 thousand new jobs.
