Foreign investments in Uzbekistan mainly focus on industrial sector

TASHKENT (TCA) — Last year some 4.8 thousand companies with foreign investments operated in Uzbekistan, and the country registered 494 new companies with foreign investment, including 330 in the capital Tashkent, Novosti Uzbekistana news portal reported.

According to the State Statistical Agency, 107 companies were registered with capital from China, 91 from Russia, 53 from South Korea, and 41 from Great Britain.

Some 239 companies with foreign capital were established in the sphere of industry, 115 in trade and catering, and the remaining companies were created in agriculture, construction, healthcare and other sectors.

Joint ventures account for almost a third of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover.

In the regional breakdown, companies with foreign capital are mainly concentrated in the city of Tashkent (around 70 percent), the Tashkent (over 8 percent) and Samarkand (around 4 percent) provinces.

Foreign capital in Uzbekistan is mainly interested in industrial production (around 46 percent), mainly in the processing industry, machine-building, cable and conductor material production, textiles and other industries manufacturing products with high added value.   

Another attractive sphere for foreign investment was the transport sector, with up to 27 percent of the total investments, followed by the communications sector with up to 17 percent of the total investments.  

Other sectors, including banks, insurance, leasing and other financial organizations, account for some 14 percent of the total foreign investors in Uzbekistan.
