Turkmenistan to host international gas congress

ASHGABAT (TCA) — On May 23–24, Turkmenistan’s state natural-gas concern Turkmengas together with Summit Trade Events Ltd. (UK) will hold the 8th International Gas Congress TGC 2017. The annual forum, which will take place in Avaza national tourist zone on the Caspian coast, will gather top managers of international fuel and energy firms and companies, Turkmenistan: the Golden Age Online Newspaper reports.

The main objective of the congress is to discuss issues of realization of the potential of the gas industry of Turkmenistan. Aspects of energy security and diversification of export and transit of Turkmen energy resources, construction of international gas pipelines, investment policy, international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan in environmental protection sphere and analysis of the development of the world’s gas market will be reviewed during TGC 2017.

Turkmenistan has huge hydrocarbon resources. While being the largest Central Asian supplier of gas, the country possesses all capabilities for increasing production volumes in the nearest future. According to independent international experts, total reserves of only two deposits — Galkynysh and Yashlar — are 26.2 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.

High potential of the coastal zone and shallow Caspian waters and presence of largest oil and gas reserves in the deposits of this region have also been confirmed.
The strategy of the development of domestic fuel and energy complex is aimed at diversification of hydrocarbon exports.

Today, however, China remains the only buyer of Turkmen gas, after gas supplies to neighboring Iran were stopped in January amid a Turkmen-Iranian dispute over the payment for previous gas supplies.
