ASTANA (TCA) — The 24th meeting of the Berlin Eurasian Club held in Brussels late in October discussed the development of the new Silk Road and prospects for cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian region on transport corridors passing through Kazakhstan, the press office of Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) said.
The discussion was attended by representatives of Kazakh and European companies, the German center for the study of the Caspian region, as well as the Eastern Committee of the German economy.
Deputy General Director of JSC KTZ Express Sergey Anashkin spoke during the panel discussion on “New Silk Road: Kazakhstan – an important transport, transit and energy hub between Europe and Asia”.
He noted the importance of the presence of dialogue platforms for the countries of the Eurasian region in the development of transcontinental transport and re-announced the support of development programs of countries involved in the international transport system of the Silk Road routes.
Multimodal holding Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is actively involved in the implementation of transport and logistics potential of Eurasia. This is evidenced by the direct involvement of the Company in the promotion of regular container services between the trade poles of Asia, Europe, Turkey and the Gulf countries with the use of multimodal solutions and a comprehensive package of logistics services that provide predictability and speed of delivery of goods.
Within and outside Kazakhstan, a backbone network of logistics centers for consolidation and distribution of cargo flows is being developed, favorable conditions for the implementation of investment projects involving the private sector are being created. It stimulates the flow of goods and creates new supply chains.
Anashkin spoke about cooperation in the organization of transport on the Trans-Caspian route (Middle Corridor). To date, the countries of the Caspian region are actively developing the port and associated infrastructure of the corridor, which opens up great prospects for the development of transcontinental cargo flows using multimodal and container technologies.
Experts noted the growing demand for transport in the direction of Europe – Asia and the importance of promoting intercontinental cargo flows by supporting national and regional programs, the process of harmonization and standardization of legislation of the Eurasian countries.
Berlin Eurasian Club (BEC) was established during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to Germany in 2012 in order to implement his idea on the Eurasian and State program “The Way to Europe”. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Germany and the German foreign policy Council (DGAP) were identified as partners in the organization and holding of the Club meetings. The main idea of BEC is to provide a platform for discussion of topical issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany on the economic and investment track. The work of the Club is aimed at regular interaction between politicians, experts, businessmen of the two States in order to exchange views and develop recommendations.
