Illegal Electricity Mining Farms Identified in Uzbekistan

Since the beginning of the year, 26 illegal electricity mining farms have been discovered in Uzbekistan, which caused damage to the state amounting to 58.2 billion som ($4.7 million), the Prosecutor General’s Office reported. Based on these facts, criminal cases of have been initiated against 29 persons under Article 169 of the Criminal Code. They face between 8 to 15 years in prison.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, as a result of the theft, 29 million kWh of electricity has been stolen, which is equivalent to the monthly consumption of 145,000 households.
