ASTANA (TCA) — A delegation of Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), led by Vice President for Logistics Sanzhar Elyubaev, last week participated in the meeting of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways’ (OSJD) Commission on Cargo Transportation in Warsaw, Poland. The meeting summed up the results of work for 2017 and agreed on the volumes of transportation of export, import and transit cargos by railway transport for 2018, KTZ’s press-office reported.
Representatives of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan, China, Poland, Russia, Vietnam, Mongolia, and North Korea discussed the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in increasing the volume of cargo transportation in the Eurasian region.
“OSJD unites railway administrations of 28 states. An interested discussion of topical issues on increasing the volume of rail freight in international traffic contributes to the efficient functioning of a single railway space in the region,” said Vice President for Integrated Planning and Informatization of JSC “KTZ – Freight Transportation” Sagindyk Zhumabaev.
During KTZ’s talks with Chinese counterparts, agreements were reached on simultaneous customs clearance, transshipment and dispatch of international container trains at border stations. It will improve the efficiency of the organization of container and through-trains following the route China (Urumqi) – Kazakhstan – Central Asia/Europe to minimize the time of their journey.
The parties expect an increase in the volume of annual freight turnover between Kazakhstan and China in comparison with 2017 by 44%. At the same time, the agreed volume of transit to China through Kazakhstan in 2018 will grow 2.3-fold and from China by 21%.
During the negotiations with the Ministry of Transport of Poland and PKP Cargo, development of the China-Europe-China container train route, the issues of increasing the capacity of the Brest-Malashevich border crossing, and the possibility of developing alternative routes through other border crossings of Poland and Belarus were discussed.
Representatives of railway administrations, foreign trade organizations, transport and logistics companies of Kazakhstan, Vietnam, China, the Russian Federation, North Korea and Mongolia took part in the meeting of the OSJD Commission on Cargo Transportation.
The next meeting is to be held in 2019 in Vietnam.
