ASHGABAT (TCA) — At the ceremony in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Turkmenistan have signed the Country Programme Action Plan for 2016-2020 (CPAP) and the arrangements for cost-sharing over the five year period, the UNDP Turkmenistan said on June 23.
The new CPAP focuses on four main areas of development: Climate change, Energy efficiency, Rule of law, and Social-economic/quality data.
“We are pleased that the programme focuses on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan. We will continue looking for more opportunities of cost-sharing with UNDP,” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mr. Rashid Meredov.
“We hope that UNDP’s support will help to implement SDGs, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the creation of the regional center on climate change technologies in Ashgabat. The programme will also support the government to implement the National Human Rights Action Plan and strengthen the socio-economic development of the country, including development data,” said UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Jacinta Barrins.
The UNDP in Turkmenistan is promoting human development and supporting the national development agenda. UNDP partners with the Government of Turkmenistan and other development organizations on a broad spectrum of issues relating to democratic governance, environment and energy, and human development. In all these areas, the UNDP helps strengthen national capacity and pilot innovative solutions.
